The core of Bantu’s sound is a dark pulse, which, while insistent, nonetheless fluctuates as it is subjected to extreme analogue manipulation. It is a heartbeat resilient in the face of adversity. The robust amplification of the low end firmly posits this sound in the bass-time continuum of dub.
“Instability” draws upon both personal experience and collective trauma - that of a diaspora subjected to the rigours of a prolonged “hostile environment.”
"Bantu" is the moniker of multi-disciplinary artist, educator, and curator Gary Stewart, co-founder of arts-based research project Dubmorphology.
